NDI if you want video over the same network/PoE cable and easy multi-camera routing — ideal for worship and chambers wired with Cat6. SDI for long, rock-solid runs into a hardware switcher (ATEM). HDMI for a short hop to a nearby switcher or display. USB only for a single camera into a laptop on Zoom/Teams. Pick output first — it drives everything else.
A small council chamber or classroom is usually fine on 12x. A mid-size sanctuary or lecture hall wants 20x to get a tight shot of a speaker from the back wall. A large worship center, arena, or deep auditorium is 30x territory. Over-zooming a small room just makes shots twitchy — we size it to your throw distance.
Yes, when there’s no operator: a pastor who walks the stage, a lecturer at a whiteboard, or an unstaffed chamber. It keeps a usable shot with zero crew. It is not a substitute for a director on a multi-cam event — for those, tracking is a helper, not the whole plan. We’ll tell you honestly which camp you’re in.
Two or more cameras and you want a real joystick controller (or IP control from a Stream Deck / software) — not fumbling through an on-screen menu mid-service. Save presets per camera so an operator recalls framed shots with one button. We spec the controller alongside the cameras so protocols and camera counts match.
PTZ cameras speak VISCA (serial or VISCA-over-IP) plus their own IP/web control. Mixing brands works, but the control surface and cabling have to agree — a mismatch is the classic reason a “working” system won’t recall presets. We confirm the control path end-to-end before you buy.
